raku and 'pit' fired

These 'pit' fired pieces were inspired when looking at late neolithic stone axe heads and carved stone balls at Manchester museum earlier last year.

The pieces are made from porcelain and 'pit'-fired in a large oil drum with sawdust, dried seaweed and other combustable materials. This is done over a 24 hour period. There is some element of control but largely each piece will be very different and unrepeatable, which makes every piece unique.
