textured and impressed stoneware

A reoccurring theme in my work over the last few years has been an interest in coastlines, rock formations, and plant life. This has culminated in this recent collection of highly textural pieces where all these elements have come together.

Pieces are made by coiling and slabbing using a heavily grogged clay and a smooth porcelain laminated layer. They have dry, cracked surfaces which are impressed with various plant material, which, when glazed, take on a ‘fossil-like’ appearance. This texture is highlighted – and in complete contrast with - a smooth, rich, glossy glaze which picks out the most intricate details.

Pieces can stand alone or be used as indoor/outdoor planters.
